Immortal Words of Anandamayi Ma
Practical Guidance for Meditation, Devotion, and Daily Spiritual Life
Sri Anandamayi Ma possessed an unusual ability to express profound spiritual truths in words that can appear simple yet contain many layers of meaning. Her teachings repeatedly return the seeker to the central purpose of human life: realization of the Divine and direct knowledge of the Self.
Immortal Words of Anandamayi Ma draws upon teachings preserved in Matri Vani. Rather than presenting Ma’s sayings as isolated quotations, Swami Nirmalananda Giri comments upon them and shows how they apply to the actual work of spiritual life.
The book’s scope is practical and immediate: meditation, devotion, remembrance of God, self-discipline, restlessness, discouragement, inner peace, perseverance, and the transformation of ordinary daily life into spiritual practice.
Swami Nirmalananda brings an unusual qualification to this commentary: nineteen years of personal contact with Sri Anandamayi Ma and direct spiritual guidance from her, combined with decades of his own meditation, study, and monastic practice. His reflections are offered with reverence, clarity, and close attention to the demands placed upon the sincere seeker.
This is a companion to be returned to repeatedly rather than merely read once. Ma’s words and the commentary provide material for meditation, reflection, encouragement, and renewed orientation toward God-realization in the midst of daily spiritual life.

Sri Anandamayi Ma · Commentary by Swami Nirmalananda GiriStrength for the Spiritual Battle+
Sri Anandamayi Ma
Worldly life is no doubt a battle-field. By becoming conscious of one’s spiritual wealth one must strive to emerge triumphant from the battle.
Commentary
On a battle-field people die: the losers die and the winners live. So it is with the sadhaka. His sadhana is his only hope of life. He must be strong and persevere and put his whole life and strength into his spiritual endeavors. Within the sadhaka is the wealth and power of the Self–of that he must be aware and that he must set forth and employ at every moment.
Sri Anandamayi Ma · Commentary by Swami Nirmalananda GiriDedicate Every Action+
Sri Anandamayi Ma
It is necessary to try and dedicate to the Supreme every single action of one’s daily life. From the moment one wakes up in the morning until one falls asleep at night one should endeavor to sustain this attitude of mind.
By so doing one will gradually come to feel: How can I offer Him greed, anger and other undesirable qualities of this kind? To Him who is so infinitely dear to me, who is my very own? Does one give that which is bad to one’s loved ones? As one continues to reflect in this way, one finally becomes incapable of doing anything bad or undesirable.
Commentary
This is an incredibly exalted ideal, but our nature as the Self is supremely exalted. So the sadhaka can indeed attain it, and attain it well.
